Apple Cider Donuts with Salted Caramel Glaze
I am always itching to bake in the fall because there are so many good recipes floating around and I have been eyeing up some apple cider donut recipes for awhile and decided on this one.
Perfect donuts to make when you are feeling cozy and want something warm and sweet to go with a cup of tea and a book. They aren't that difficult to make either!
Recipe inspiration can be found here. I did some tweaking to make it my own. The donuts themselves are so delicious right out of the oven you don't even need the caramel sauce...but of course you will want it!
I also added about a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg and cardamom to the donut batter to make it a little more flavourful. These donuts have a delicate flavour that isn't too over powering so you can use more than just one icing or glaze should you choose. A chocolate hazelnut glaze would go so well also...I may have to try that next time!
Unfortunately I didn't have kosher salt like the recipe calls for but extra large sea salt seemed to do the trick. The caramel tastes great on its own as well if you aren't a fan of the salty and sweet combination.
It has been awhile since I've blogged, life is just a little bit crazy so it's been hard to find the time but I hope to put a few posts up in the upcoming weeks - fall is my favourite time to bake after all.
