I channeled my inner yogi for this photoshoot where the lovely Kerra and I explored a bit of the river valley to show off all of her yoga moves.

As you can see the Edmonton skyline isn't a bad little back drop for a yoga session even if your poses aren't quite as good as Kerra's, i'd still recommend it.

The day was spent wandering the river valley, trekking up and down stairs and through leaf scattered parks; all the while snapping and posing until late into the afternoon.

Kerra is an old friend of mine who I've known since elementary school. She recently began her yoga practice and reached out to me when I started this blog. We talked about doing a yoga inspired photo shoot to get her out into the yoga world and here we are. She has a truly inspirational story as to how she started her yoga journey so scroll on down and she what she had to say!

"I always thought about going into get my yoga certification but never knew if it would be the right decision, or worth all of the money and time."

"It's funny because I'm doing all the things I thought about doing 4 years ago after high-school graduation. Last year I got really sick and was unable to do a lot of things just because I was in so much pain and the cherry on top was that we had no idea what was causing it - multiple ER visits, doctors, tests, and MRI's finally concluded that there was something not right going on near my stomach lining and so it was decided that a laparoscopic surgery was needed to find out what it was."

"I was told I could wake up with a minuscule scar, or a huge one, I could be out of the hospital in a day, or a couple of weeks - they had literally had no idea what we were getting into on the operating table. I woke up with a 6 inch large incision, and was told a grapefruit sized growth was taken out of me."

This whole experience really woke me up as to what I wanted to do in life and the fact that time isn't waiting around for me to decide either. knowing I would be healed in a few months, I took the plunge and made a deposit on my training program that would start the following February of 2014.  I honestly had no intention to teach and thinking about it gave me sweaty palms! Flash forward to today, and I'm actually teaching and excited about it! It gives me such joy to share yoga with others and see them enjoying it as much as I do. Yoga is so great for every person and every body, and even helps with disease and ailments that might hold people back from practicing."

"I try to do yoga myself at least for a bit everyday. I did an October yoga challenge just to keep myself accountable and I've loved every minute of it! Sometimes it's hard to get yourself to a class, or to your mat - but once you're there you never regret your decision! Even just waking up in the morning and going through a few sun salutations can really start your day off on a positive note"

Thank you for reading! I hope Kerra's experience gave you a little inspiration to go after what your afraid of before it's too late.
