After a very long train ride, we made it to Venice!
As soon as we got off the train we realized we were in a completely other world. Our first boat ride to the hotel was an experience in itself, not entirely sure how the process worked we hopped on grinning at how weird it felt to be on water. The sun was already starting to set when we arrived at the hotel in Guidecca. We quickly freshened up and found a spot to eat our first Italian pizza on the pier. Watching the sun sink down over a bottle of wine, we both couldn't stop smiling. These moments were some of my favorite of the entire trip.
We woke up early the next day to sight see and try and beat the crowds. Took a boat back to the main island, and ate Gelato for breakfast. Since our hotel is on Guidecca island, we were able to avoid the crowds until reaching the centre of Venice. Once in the centre, it's a free for all.
Venice heat is like no other, it's almost like sitting in a sauna except you don't realize how hot you are until you notice that your shirt is soaked through. We did our best to push through the crowds, ducking into alley ways and empty streets wherever we could to explore the areas less populated.
We ended up taking the wrong boat which led us to a large square where the locals seemed to hang out. Here there were fruit stands and cafes side by side. Something we both loved to do was check out the areas less populated by crowds and see and do as the locals do. To me it gives you a true sense of the culture and allows you to see sites that most people don't realize even exist.
Venezia I love you.
